1. Conventional Acrylic Partial Dentures:
These are removable false teeth made of acrylic (plastic). They fit snugly over the gums to replace missing teeth and eliminate potential problems caused by gaps. It usually clips onto some of your natural teeth via metal clasps, which hold it securely in place in your mouth.
2. Cast Partial Dentures:
A Cast Partial Denture (CPD) is defined as a removable partial denture consisting of a cast metal framework that contains artificial teeth set in an acrylic resin. Cast Partial Denture is stronger, more durable and retentive. Each denture is specifically designed and fabricated to the individual patient.
What Are The Indications For A Cast Partial Denture?
- Partially edentulous (lose some of the teeth)
- No tooth is present behind to edentulous space
- Above the age of 17 years
- Periodontal (gum) condition of the remaining teeth is good
- Patient desires
- Trauma to the jaw bone
- When the remaining teeth have to be stabilized against lateral and anterior-posterior forces
3. Precision Attachments:
The removable partial denture is made to attach to your natural teeth with devices called precision attachments. Precision attachments incorporated into crowns or dentures are more aesthetic than clasps. This type of partial dentures is precision made and usually constructed of a lightweight and strong metal alloy that allows the partial denture to be very thin and unobtrusive. The artificial teeth are anchored in pink resins or plastics that mimic gingival tissue and are attached to the metal substructure.
